Published on 21, April 2023
Mitroplus Labs has developed a refined strategy based on four years of feedback. The mission is to create a safe and beneficial environment for AI, blockchain, and Web 3, aligning them with African values and policies. This includes initiatives like blockchain literacy centers and online education. The document outlines the commitment to certain principles for the benefit of communities and humanity as a whole.
Broadly Distributed Benefits
Mitroplus Labs is committed to using its influence to ensure that blockchain and web3 technologies benefit all in African states and beyond, while preventing their misuse for illicit activities or harming humanity. Their primary responsibility is to humanity, and they strive to avoid conflicts of interest among their employees and stakeholders that could compromise the broader benefit.
Long-term Safety
Mitroplus Labs is dedicated to researching and translating blockchain knowledge to make it accessible to grassroots communities in Africa. They also aim to promote widespread adoption of this research.
They are committed to ensuring that late-stage blockchain development proceeds with adequate safety measures rather than becoming a competitive race. They propose healthy competition between projects and will determine the specifics on a case-by-case basis, typically triggered when there is a "better-than-even chance of success in the next two years."
Technical leadership
Mitroplus Labs acknowledges the need to be at the forefront of AI and blockchain capabilities to effectively address societal impact. They emphasize the importance of leading in areas that align with their mission and expertise, recognizing the broad impact AI will have on society.
Cooperative Orientation
Mitroplus Labs is committed to collaborating with other research and policy institutions to create a global community focused on addressing global challenges. They aim to provide public goods to guide society through disruptive technology, such as publishing research. However, they anticipate that safety and security concerns will reduce traditional publishing while emphasizing the sharing of safety, policy, and standards research in the future.
